She told me she has been wishing for a unicorn forever - a real unicorn, not a stuffed one like the one she got from Santa last year.

I once caught her looking in the mirror at herself and saying "I don't look any different than a regular girl."  When I asked her what she meant she said that you could not tell by looking at her that she had super powers.

On her fourth birthday she came running in our room in the morning saying, "Mumma, Mumma I don't look any different and my jammies still fit!"

We call them Victoria-isms and there are so many of them we have lost count but even at almost seven her imagination combined with her flair for stating the obvious is spectacular.

31 Days of Pinterest, Something Pretty for the Cork and Magnet Boards on Day 9

So this pin is actually for magnets, but I did some magnets and thumb tacks as I am putting a magnetic board above my desk (or rather PITA is, the next time she comes in) and you saw yesterday's post - it needs something pretty - and, well, I had the glue gun read to go.

I already had everything I needed for this one so it was FREE.  If you had to buy stuff to do it, it would be about $1 for six magnets and about another $1 for a package of thumb tacks at your local dollar store.  And everyone has buttons, right?  (I have a thing - I AM a button hoarder.)

When we were getting the cutting room at the shop organized, we (me and PITA) covered some cork squares with fabric and attached them to the wall behind the cutting table, and then put a metal circle in the middle - lots of places for me to put all my little notes and such... once we are settled in our new spot that it is.  It seems like the last 10 pounds when you go on a diet - it just doesn't want to get done.  I still have half a dozen boxes in my office of general junk that need to be sorted and tossed, sold or put away and now I have a cold so all I have planned for today is blogging and staring blankly at the computer screen (so far so good).  Anyway, here are mine. The butterflies, birds and flowers are little wooden embellishments (also from the dollar store) that we glued to magnets.

the little things we do

1. My favorite room in my home is the family room because that is what it is all about. At Christmas time I reorganized and rearranged the room (using this handy tool I discovered on Pinterest) and since I did, all of us spend most of our time there although Penelope still manages to create her Atom bomb explosion of Barbie and Polly Pocket all over the living room.

2. My current decor style is busy mother with business to run and disabled messy husband, two kids under 10, a teenager, two dogs, four cats, two guinea pigs chic but I wish it were more clean and tidy housewife. (That is not meant to offend - only to be funny because it is true.  When I was a stay at home Mum my house was clean, tidy organized and had an emerging country vintage style - now it is chaos.)

3. I wish I could redecorate EVERY room in my house to make it more fresh, clean and organized. My oldest son said (and PITA and my Mum would probably agree) I should put everything out in the yard and bring back only what I really need - sounds a little too much like an episode of Hoarders for my liking. :o)

This is a kitchen I could live in.  LOVE it.

4. My dream house absolutely has to have a huge kitchen with lots of storage, a big farm sink, an Aga (I think I have mentioned this before) and an eating area in the kitchen. Basically I want my Granty's (that's my maternal-Grandmother) kitchen in white and cream - or my Auntie Brenda's (whole house!) just the way it is plus the Aga and sink.

5. One house item I am willing to splurge on is  electronics.  And by I, I mean CH.  I don't really splurge on anything other than groceries.  Because of him we have a computer for just about everyone, several X-Boxes, an X-Box 360, a WII - and a monstrous TV to use them on - a game boy, two DS's, a 3 DS, and two PSPs.  That does not even include Josh's stuff. How bad is that. :(

6. A decor trend that I just don't "get" is modern industrial.  Don't you want to be comfy at home?  Isn't that what the idea of home is all about?  I so do not understand stainless steel coffee tables and rock hard couches in clutter free rooms.

7. Love is a little touch that makes my house feel like home. I always know that I am home when I walk in the door and am greeted by my dogs who love me and are happy to see me and then by my kids. I know it is a place where I am always safe, always wanted and always loved.

31 Days of Pinterest, The Cork Boards on Day 8

I saw this idea and instantly knew I wanted to do it for the cabinet doors in my pretty pink office.  I did it today since I am getting close to being able to see all of the floor!  Finally.

I am not even going to bother with the Pinterest version of (this is the link because I like to give credit where credit is due), I actually like my photo better (toot toot). This was a super inexpensive project, the cork was from the Dollarama $2, for 2 pieces... maybe I should put my cost on all these posts, I know I would like to know.  :o)

31 Days of Pinterest, Owls for Baby Hayden on Day 7

Okay, so I made this one a while ago but it is SO stinkin's cute I couldn't not share.  Finally got around to taking a the photo today - that counts, right?  I made the tree and the owls and PITA put it together... cause that is how we roll.  She is the executioner.  :o)

Sometimes

In the summer I lost someone I love.  I did not see him often or talk to him everyday but I miss him.  I think of him now and am so sad for the enormous hole he has left in my family.

I am so sad for my Aunt, his mother.  He the amazingly charismatic, handsome only child.  I am so sad for his wife and the heart break that she must face everyday.  I am so so sad for his to beautiful children to loose such an amazing father at such a young age.  The age when his own father came into his life - I ache for him as well.  I am so sad for my grandparents although he is with them now I know that is not what they would have wanted for him.

I am sad for all of us for now we have a hole, which will never be filled, which will last forever and stand as a reminder of how fragile life is.  How important it is to live each day.  To forgive and to forget.  To love.

I love you family.  So much.

31 Days of Pinterest, Dinner for Hockey Night in Canada on Day 6

So here we are, another day of fun with Pinterest!  Tonight I made this super yummy pulled beef thing.  I liked it, the shorties tolerated it and the men folk (Josh, Jack, and CH) loved it. As you know, everyone in our house watches the hockey and this the perfect hockey night dinner!  I put it all together in the crock pot after dinner the night before and turn it on in the morning as I am heading out the door to work.  When I get home it is done and the part that takes me the longest is washing the crock pot!  I will make this many many times I am sure.
