Seems Like I am Always in Action

I have been so busy selling what I make that I have not had time to talk about it!

Nag and I went to an amazing craft market in beautiful Nelson BC, the Kootenay Artisan Market,  and made a suitcase full of money.  Been attending lots of smaller, less lucrative ones as well.  Lots.  I have attended at least 2 a month since May and I am pooped! Ready to sew something new rather than what I know I will sell.  I have lots of ideas brewing!

I was at the local mall this last weekend.  It is probably the quietest of all the markets I attend but at is organized by father and brother in law it is not optional.  Two more to go and I can rest. :)
My table at the Kootenay Artisan Market looked so good!  It had to be against the wall, which is new for me, and I was worried but it was actually better than when I am behind the table and I was unable to get away with hiding which I think worked in my favour.

I went out on Saturday night for the first time in ages.  I was so hung over it was disgraceful - but funny - and my spirits were still up so it was all good.  It was a good thing I had Nag with me to take care of me. I am so often thankful for her and I am not just saying that because I know she read this. ;)

Anyway, I better get back to work.

Check In

I had a big day today, went on a mini road trip with Nag and submitted my stuff at Craft Connection in Nelson... We shall see. It seemed positive, and I will think positive!

I signed up for all 10 Trail Markets and am getting close to finalizing some other summer dates. That is exciting but I need to get sewing!!

I am still toying with the idea of Artisan but .... there are issues...

Anyway, I am watching The Voice. Be back in the Autumn, or sooner if you are lucky. ;)

Fabulous Beautiful Amazing Vancouver, I Love You

Not only do I love this wonderful city but I love my people there so much.  I got to see three of my lovely Aunties and several of my wonderful cousins.  I am already looking forward to my next visit!

The people of Vancouver that do not belong to me are very unfriendly which I do not love. Even in it Kits, which was friendly welcoming place when I lived in Vancouver ten years ago. People look the other way when you smile at them.  I would hope that they do not think I am so down on my luck that I might hit them up for a dollar!  Who knows but after being back in small town BC for ten years I find it very strange - they do not know what they are missing avoiding human contact is so unnatural.

Perhaps it is the fact that it was once an affordable neighbourhood and has now become a crazy expensive neighbourhood loaded with snobby people. Not all of them.  I have two amazing Aunts, an equally amazing Uncle and several adored and wonderful cousins all living in this much changed neighbourhood.

The houses are really nice, if you like heritage houses, which I do. A lot. The one I have pictured here was almost right next door to where we stayed and is listed for 1 MILLION 798 THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!!  CRAZY!!!!  Meanwhile, there are people sleeping on the streets down town and living in a tent city on the North Shore.  I love Vancouver and do not want to talk trash about my beloved city but.... perhaps the people need to collectively shake their heads and make some serious changes.  Things seem to have gotten very out of control and that scares me and makes me a little sad. Do you need a BMW, really?  Buy a Honda and donate the difference to a homeless shelter.  Seriously people.

Well, I got that off of my chest.  I did not even really know it was there to be honest but it came out so must have been.

We arrived Thursday at about 7:30 in the evening and stayed until about 11:30 this morning and I packed every minute as full as I could.  I honestly had no spare time whatsoever but it was fabulous - as always.  If you have never been to Vancouver you should go, it is so beautiful.

Snap365 Days 16 through 20

The Foot

Day 16 :: I had something different in mind but got side tracked by life. Just crawled in for a super early night and realize I forgot to take my photo today. Husband says take a picture of my foot, I have nice feet. So I did. :)

(Note: The night before we left I forgot to take my photo so CH suggested I use his foot as my subject matter.  I thought it was hilarious but I never got even one comment so apparently no one else did!)

Day 17 :: Doug was hitch hiking at the West Hedley Mall. I hope someone picked him up, it looked like he had been waiting a while. Unfortunately we were headed in the wrong direction. ;)

(Note:  Doug (whose name is on his shirt, I am not just pulling one out of his hat) was still there, a little more snowy, when we came home but we are both very cautious of picking up hitch hikers.)

Day 19 :: Saturday we stayed with my Auntie in Cloverdale. She has the sweetest dog, Freda, who is almost 17!

(Note:  Freda is a teeny tiny Silky Terrier - more the size of a Yorkie.  Even when she was young and spunky she was a snugly loving little thing.  Her and her brother Conrad, who has been gone about a year, where the reason I got brave and got a dog as an adult.)

Day 20 :: Heading toward the mountains and away from the ocean and my family makes me sad but I miss my kids so home it is. :)

The Way Back - Things I Saw or Thought About on the Road

1. Stop signs in the prairies are twice the size of ours at home. I'm not even joking. It's nuts.

2. The foothills near Turner Valley are beautiful in October. I thought Turner Valley was a city. I was wrong.

3. Long drives on easy roads make me sleepy.

4. The best time of year to travel in the evening is hunting season. Apparently the East Kootenay and Albertan wildlife is smart enough to lay low, we haven't seen so much as squirrel on the way home.

5. Rest stops in BC out number rest stops in Alberta like 8 to 1, even though in Alberta you need them to wake up!

6. It was snowing in Longview Alberta. It was freakin' cold in Sparwood. After being so nice in Calgary it was a shock to my bare arms!

7. There was a giant cowboy in a field in Alberta and Paul Bunyan in some trees in BC.

8. Pedestrians in Alberta never look. I mean never. Ever. They just walk. What if the driver doesn't look either? I had like 12 mini strokes while in Calgary because of this.

9. Cross Iron Mills is an amazing mall with a really interesting hunting and fishing store called the Bass Pro Shop (amazing, but creepy) store with lots of stuffed dead things all over the place. In some ways I enjoyed it more than the zoo as the animals were too dead to be bored and sad.

10.  My Shorties are were so amazing all the way there, all the way home and almost every minute of in between.  :o)

The bottom line is, I much prefer my province. Alberta is a nice place to visit but coming home to the mountains and proper sized trees is a wonderful thing.

Fill in the Blank Friday (Way Late!)

I was camping on Friday.  I never even took one photo to prove it. My bad.  I did have a really nice time, read two and half books (I'll post about them after this post), floated in the late, swam a little, worked on my tan...  it was nice, but too short.

1. I am proud of my wonderful amazing gorgeous super fabulous wonderfully amazing kind hearted children. Everything about them amazes me and makes me proud of them.

The littlest one is my nephew - PITA is his Mom.

2. This weekend I will was camping at Champion Lakes Provincial park, one of my most favourite places on earth.  I love it for its peacefulness - this weekend it was packaged and a little less peaceful but still a wonderful place to spend some quality time with my precious family.

3. A secret dream I have is write a book about my life (from 15 to 30) and to sing in a rock band.  Perhaps neither of these are especially secret... 

4. I can't handle shallow, fake people.  We have but one life, live it well.  Live it deeply.  Respect others.  Consider the feelings of others.  Consider the circumstances that have led others to act as they do.  Forgive.  Be honest.  And always, always be kind.

5. The most annoying thing in the entire world is mean people.  (And the sound of crinkling plastic - I hate that!)

6. The most relaxing thing in the entire world is crawling into my comfy bed when I have not slept in it for a few days or when I am really really tired  that 2 seconds (literally) before I fall asleep.

7. I think everyone should BE NICE!

A Day Away Part 3, The Final Post

Today we:

1. Got in an argument about nothing.

2. Had a nice Sunday drive.

3. Spent some quality time as a family.

4. Swam in a nice warm, clean, crystal clear lake.

seem big - it is barely not a pond.

5. Talked to some nice people that we seem to run into in the most random places at the most random times.

6. Caught some painted turtles.  (Well, the Little Man and a whole lot of patience caught some turtles.  The first one escaped. The second one, I helped get out of the net before it could swim off.  They are fast and strong and their claws are really sharp!)

up in a year for the turtle to come to him.  Funny thing is, they did!
Who knew turtles were curious?  I never would have thought it.

This is CH's hand.  I couldn't reach to hold him like this and the only other way
to hold him was upside down like a drink tray or he could reach you with
his super sharp claws.  He was mad and hissing.
We let him go after about two minutes - just long enough for a photo op.

8. Visited the flood sites in Castlegar, BC. &Amazing, the river is totally taking over. The beach at our local Gyro Park is nonexistant. My Dad said the last time it was this high was 1968!

9. Had a super yummy dinner at Boston Pizza.

Now I am home, blogging, weary, and a little sun burned.  But happy and looking forward to our next family adventure.

A Day Away Part 2

Perhaps I should not blog emotionally. I got several text messages from Nag worried about me, I am thinking as a direct result of my earlier post. (She gets email updates to my blog.)

Sorry about that lady. I was totally venting so that I was able to move on and have a good day. Which I am still currently having. On top of the Bombi Pass on my way to Castlegar. After spending some nice time at Rosebud Lake and exploring old mining roads in Salmo. More later....

A Day Away Part 1

I am not sure what it is about my relationship with CH that keeps us from getting along but it seems like we just can't. Every little thing sets him - us? - off into an argument. We cannot even seem to have a nice day away at the beach without some squabble over some real or imagined thing.

Today started nicely. We are all in the truck heading toward out destination. Taking the long way. Looking at the overflowing river. There is a motorhome in front of us going slow. I say "Steve" while holding onto the sissy bar and he goes off because he finds it 'very offensive' when I criticize his driving. Really? Some of the times when I call something to his attention he hasn't actually seen whatever it was - both times he has gotten me into an accident I was looking at my phone and then all of a sudden I am wondering WTH and sitting in a smashed up car. I guess I should be looking at the road now and working on not being mad at him for being an a#%£*le and try to enjoy the rest of my day.

Camping in the Rainy Woods

During the day - and sometimes when I go to bed at night - I think of a thousand interesting blog posts.  In the evening when I sit down to write them - they are gone.  So, you are left with some nice shots of my rainy weekend in the woods.  :o)

This is the photo we took so CH could see, he was the last one to be released back into the lake.  There was one that was a bit  bigger, but there were all just babies.

Grass growing out of a log that was floating in the creek near where the little fish was caught.  Champion Lakes is such a beautiful and peaceful place.

The weather was kind of the pits (but we still had fun!).  This was taken at about 2 in the afternoon but it looks like the evening!  About 2 minutes after this the rain was coming down in buckets and the three of us got soaked.

A couple of the frogs my shorties caught (and released).  They caught at least 4 a day in varying sizes.  It seems like there are more of them this year.  Maybe it is all the rain we have been getting or maybe they are just not hiding out yet.

Happy Friday! Thank Goodness these blanks are a little more cheerful (and I did not lose what I wrote, having learned my lesson to SAVE often! I suppose re-learn is more accurate.

I have a had a busy week. Last weekend was un-blogable - I was so busy with Silver City Days with CH, the Shorties, Mother's Day, etc.  Took a couple of great photos of the carnival and the park I was relaxing in while the shorties went on rides, check them out on Instagram.

We took it easier than we ever have on a Silver City Saturday and it went wonderfully.  We even made it to the fireworks - which we don't always due to being too tired from.

On Sunday we had a delicious brunch buffet at Cafe Americano - a little restaurant / coffee shop in our lovely little downtown.  While we were there an elderly gentleman gave my kids $20 for the fair.  They were so excited - Penelope especially as she had been begging us to go on more rides the whole time we were at the restaurant. It was so nice.  Random strangers practicing random acts of kindness.  :o)

Sunday evening we went to PITA's for a BBQ.  It was her last birthday ever (29th ppfft).  The food was excellent again, by the time I went home I felt like such a hippo.  I ate more on Sunday than I usually do in like three days!

Monday...  eeck...  CH and I had a bad parenting moment.  We were both really tired and sore and we did not drive our kids to school.  That's right.  They stayed home from school because neither of us could get it together to take them - or get them ready for that matter.  Stupid car accident did not pair well with the fair!!

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday - Soccer, Smokies AGM, Piano, Soccer, sewing memory quilt blocks for Friday until 3 am....

This weekend will most likely be just as busy as last, although Saturday night is the only day that has a plan at the moment.

So, on with the blanks!

the little things we do

1. Something that is very near and dear to my heart is, my family of course. I place a lot of importance with my family - not only those who live in my house (or once did) but also the extended family - my parents and in-laws, my Aunts Uncles and cousins.  they are all very important to me.  I have always been very attached to family and have tried to teach my kids to be the same.

2. Today is good cause to celebrate. Any day everyone is above ground, healthy, and content is a reason to celebrate!

3. The most fun I ever had was... I have had SO much fun I honestly can not pick one thing. When I was 19 (20 years ago!!) I lived with three of my friends for about 5 months and it was non-stop fun.  Seriously.  We never stopped having fun - well I didn't anyway. The summer of 1995 I drove from my home in North Vancouver to Christina Lake every weekend and it was really really fun as well - lots of quality time with my Grandma on what would be her last summer and lots of party and beach time with my friends. Specific days? Probably days with Surely. We once went on a road trip from Vancouver to visit the Rhododendron Forest in Manning Park.  It took us two and half hours to get there and 14 to get home.  The two full on family vacations that CH and I have taken the kids on were also really fun.  Both times we visited some of my amazing family and the beautiful Pacific Ocean.  I honestly cannot pick one thing or one time.  I have been blessed in the fun department - possibly due in part to my ability to always see a silver lining.  I can think of a couple of times that I ran out of gas or the car broke down and it ended up being really fun...

4. True friends are the ones where no topic is off-limits and you can always pick up where you left off even if there's a time lapse between visits. The people who understand you and accept you - the good and the bad - and love you unconditionally.

5. Something that makes me terribly happy is quality family time (like most of this last weekend). I LOVE LOVE LOVE spending time with CH and the shorties (especially at the beach or camping which is coming up soon!! Yeah!!).

6. A good way to spend a sunny day is SITTING ON THE BEACH!!! There is no other acceptable way to spend a nice sunshiny day. Well, I suppose swimming or waking at the beach are okay too. :o)

7. My favorite celebratory food is turkey - well stuffing and gravy, really but you can't have one without the other. My Mum make the best turkey, gravy and stuffing in the Universe. Hands down no contest.

Nag

Sorry.  I have been busy. And quite honestly a little bi-polar and didn't want to spread it around.  I have a loan that I cannot afford the payments for and need to re-do my mortgage so that I can afford to live in my house and work this low (read no) pay job and I am super stressed about it as my credit (thanks to a divorce and then starting a business in a downward spiraling economy) is in the toilet...  see this is why no post.  Hate to be grumpy and complain - dump my crap in your lap  - so I was avoiding BUT Nag (my new name for Jen) keeps asking (nagging, some might say) about a new post and since I have been slacking I have been starting to worry that you won't want come to read anymore. Don't worry I have an appointment with my councilor tomorrow.

Aside:  I have tell you I am sitting at my desk in my new pink office (thank you PITA) surrounded by a huge mess of stuff (thank you again, PITA) that needs to be unpacked and sorted through and at the same time straightening my hair, using my iPhone as a mirror. And those who know me think I can't multitask!  (which is true in the case of chewing gum)  :o)

So I have been a bit gloomy but I have taken a few really great photos with my iPhone and the help of Instagram.  See....

On Monday CH cooked dinner for the whole family... grilled cheese.  Yummy.

We gave all the rooms at the new shop names, this is the fabric room.

Local Blogger AND Fabulous Artist!

It is such a small world - especially here in the Kootenays.  I am always meeting people that have connections to people that I already know.  The other day Jen and I were talking about my hopes for the direction of the shop and she mentioned this great local artist whose talents I may want to draw upon.  I had a look and LOVE her style.

So, I am poking around her blog and am led to her portfolio - which includes basic webdesign for her Aunt's store in Creston.  So strange, I know her Aunt - not like she is my bestie but to say hello and perhaps make small talk.  Anyway, I am looking at her picture - her about me photo on her blog and I am thinking - I know this girl.  That was Tuesday.  On Saturday, she comes into the shop to pick up her serger (we were servicing it for her) and I instantly know who she is!  I love that, definitely a perk to small town living.

Fill in the Blank Friday One Day Late Due to Big Road Trip!

What a weekend.  We made it.  CH changed the thermostat in the car at the side of the road between Salmo and Fruitvale and, voila, all good from there on out.  We made it to Wasa Lake safe and sound... and two and half hours late!  Oh yah, did I mention that I forgot about the 1 hour time difference?

Anyway, all is well that ends well.  CH and I had a great time, sold lots, got kissed by Alpacas (see the slide show for more!) and had a night away from the kids.  I took lots of photos and have added a slide show of the quilts and other fabulous people and things (see the side bar on the right), here are the highlights (I even took a few snaps of the food - by far the best ever at a quilt show! Thanks ladies!).

I really enjoyed this show as it had a lot of variety.  Hand quilting to professional long arm quilting; hand applique to machine applique.

There are only 16 or so members of this guild, which makes the variety - and the quantity and quality of the work - even more impressive.

Thank you all so much for a nice weekend, I will look forward to your next show!  Perhaps I will see you in Golden in April.

2. My children are my muse. They inspire me is ways I would never have thought to be inspired before I was blessed with them in my life.

4. The warm Autumn sunshine is my favorite thing about today.

5. Life is kind of like a ride at the carnival. Some people ride the roller coaster and some people just sit on the bench and watch.

6. If I could have anything I wanted I would want independently wealthy so that I could be home with my kids all the time and still be able to help and inspire others. I would like to be Oprah, only less famous and slightly less busy and with a husband and children.

7. A funny thing happened the other day... well, everyday, I have smallish kids.  One of which is extremely funny and the other very serious - which makes things funny all the time.

Well, first, PITA bailed. Although she said she wanted to come, I really don't believe it. She spent the whole week telling me she did not know if she would be able to come or not and then finally last night it was clear she would not be. So CH and I made arrangements for the short people to be taken care of and we are off.

The problem with that is, we only have our car available to us at the moment and it is having some problems with overheating. So here we are, loaded up and ready to drive up a great big hill. Will we make it???

Personally, I love an adventure - especially with mobile blogging!

The Scoop

Okay so here it is.  The ugly truth. I have been busy.  Perhaps too busy to blog.  Busy having fun.

The sun has finally decided to shine in my part of the world and I have been making time to enjoy it with my kids.    I have spent a large number of days at the beach with them, and sometimes even CH gets to come. I have the best tan I have had in ages and it has been the shortest summer.

Facts about Canada

I feel like I might have been a little rough on the good old US of A in my last post and that was not my intention. Having said that, here are some really great reasons why I love Canada as much as I do.

Canada is the second largest country in the world, 9,971,000 square kilometers.  There are 3.4 people per square kilometer as compared to the USA which is 9,826,675 and there are 32 people per square kilometer.

Basketball, the electric light bulb, the electric range, the electron microscope, standard time, the baseball glove, the television, the telephone, instant mashed potatoes, the pacemaker, the zipper, frozen food, and lots of other things you cannot imagine life without were all invented in Canada.

According to the United Nations Human Development Index, Canada has the highest quality of life in the world. Vancouver, British Columbia is with Zurich Switzerland for the highest quality of life of any city in the world.

All Canadian have free access to health care.  Most people over 65 receive their prescriptions for free, as do low income families.

Canada maintains 38 national parks, which cover about 2% of the country's landmass. Banff, located on the eastern slopes of Alberta's Rocky Mountains, is the oldest (est. 1885); Tuktut Nogait, in the Northwest Territories, was established in 1996. There are 836 national historic sites, designated in honour of people, places and events that figure in the country's history. Canada also has over 1000 provincial parks and nearly 50 territorial parks.

Fill in the Blank Friday

I am currently sitting in a really bad, really 70s hotel room (very clean but not at all pretty) in a small town (city?) called Creston, here in lovely British Columbia.  I have a had a really fun day with PITA.  Laughing our butts of at the Quilt Show we are vending at here.  Crazy, crazy weekend running all over the province selling my wares...

1. I am looking forward to of so many things!  In the near future it is my daughter's 6th birthday on Monday and next weekend is Silver City Days. In June I will be going to Kelowna to a 4D ultra sound to find out if I will be having a niece or a nephew (kinda routing for the niece!) in October and I will be meeting a nephew that I have not met (more details to follow after meeting). In July I will be going to Vancouver for my family's annual Sports Day (very excited about that, very!).  AND the thing I am looking most forward to, in October I will be welcoming to the world my new little great-niece or nephew.

2. Something kind of embarrassing that I still love anyway is barbies. Maybe I don't still love them, but love them again.  Having a daughter is a wonderful re-introduction to the world of Barbie!

3. My favorite car is a Volkswagen Beetle (the old ones, not the new), old corvette (50s and 60s), any new, expensive, sporty convertible (Porsche Boxster, Thunberbird, BMW, whatever).

4. If I could pick one type of weather to live with for the rest of my life it would be 70 degrees, mild humidity so that my hair did not look like I got electrocuted all of the time.  365 growing season... that would be bliss.

5. My favorite thing to do after a bad/stressful day is sew until it is time for bed and then go to bed and snuggle up to my warm toasty husband so he can rub me feet with his until I drift off to sleep.

6. This weekend I will be running around the province participating in three different craft fairs/quilt shows as well as managing to keep the shop open.  Missing my kids and sharing a hotel room with PITA.

7. If I were a color, I'd be yellow because, I took two different online quizzes just now and one said blue and the other green - I think yellow.  After all I have a sunny disposition!

The Long Journey...

On Thursday the DH and I road tripped to Vancouver for a last minute doctor's appointment. We rented a car and got two! The first one ended up, well... check it out for yourself!








So, we took out a runaway lane sign. No good, but not that bad either. We are alive and totally uninjured. Our own car is fine. Countless kind people stopped to see of we were okay and some nice guys from Fruitvale pulled us out!

The second car was much nicer! and after we unthawed from our four hour wait in the mountains in -15, it was very comfortable. The rest of the drive was uneventful - thank goodness - and the next day we woke up to a beautiful blue sky day.

I took a million pictures in hope to get some really goods ones from the moment I walked out the door in Trail and all around downtown Vancouver. These are the ones I really liked.

This is the old part of St. Paul's Hospital.

The historic First Baptist Church on Burrard Street was built in 1911.  It is one of many cathedrals in downtown Vancouver - all of which are very beautiful.

This is a new building but the stone color makes it look old in this picture.  I did not take this for any reason, I was just snapping away and I thought this turned out really well.

I hope you enjoyed my photos - I enjoyed taking them - and the trip.  Eventful AND I got to see some people I really really love and I was home before I had a chance to miss my kids!
